Why we don't have long term contracts

I’ve recently spoken with quite a few folks that would love to use Webconnex, but they are in a contract with another provider that can’t be broken. Really? We are sure hoping this becomes something of the past, because in our opinion it’s shameful. Of course, we would like to earn their business, but more importantly it sheds light on a pretty pathetic trend in our industry. There is only one reason a company would make a customer sign a long term contract… They know that’s the only way to keep them. It’s all about NOT having enough faith in their product. They are not sure if a customer will actually stay with you if given the choice to leave.

At Webconnex, frankly we’d love the security of locking you all down with long term contracts, but we know it’s a great deal for us, and a crappy one for you. We don’t require long term contracts because:

Customer Disservice

Posted June 21 2010, 2:20 PM in General

Our dedication to support stems from a lifetime of frustration from hit-and-run businesses that completely disappear after they have closed the deal and have your credit card number. They know that it will be harder to switch after they have your money.

Recently, we have been amazed and discouraged at some of the biggest tech companies that we have come to love, use and rely on. Seems that they work hard to woo you into their service and then give you the shaft as soon as you need something. We had a particular issue with one of the biggest tech companies in the world. We’ll call them Elgoog. Our support issue was simple enough but needed some intervention from somebody technical at Elgoog. When you try and get in contact with them, there is no email, no phone number and no help desk. They direct you to answer a series of questions on a web form, and then require you to make a selection out of series of questions about your problem… none of the required selection options were our problem.

Video Broadcasting and Live Streaming Diagram

Posted May 28 2010, 12:18 PM in Video Broadcasting

We get a lot of clients asking us about the best way to do video for their church or event. They commonly incorporate projects, muli-cameras, desire to do live streaming and then also have the videos in high quality for online download later.

Webconnex's online video broadcasting service is the best way to convert, upload and update your website with your high definition web video. But what if you want to also live stream the video (using ustream.tv) and incorproate more than one camera angle?

I put together this web diagram. Essentially it shows how to have your produced feed and go to projectors, how to get it onto ustream (using camtasia studio), and then how to get it in the highest quality on your website. This setup seems to work best to have multi-camera angles go to livestream without unneccessary cameras, hardware and equipment.
