Kicking butt one line at a time

Convenience Fee FAIL

Posted January 23 2010, 11:27 AM in General, Event Registration

Recently I wanted to go see an event in San Diego. I went online, looked at the tickets and decided I wanted to go. The tickets were a little expensive, but just at my threshold for what was 'worth it' for me.

So I added two available tickets to cart and then went to the finalized screen. I practically spit out my coffee when I saw the convenience fee. $18.20 PER TICKET (not to mention the 'Facility Fee' of $2 per ticket). Totalled this was a $40.40 in 'convenience fees.' Not very convenient for me.

Being in the online ticketing and registration industry, this is the exact thing that frustrates us too. Our goal is to make registering people online easier and more cost effective online. Perhaps if more companies would realize what a deterrant this is, maybe a few more people would be filling the seats. For now, I am going to pass on this one. I give this event a 'Convenience Fee FAIL.'
